EU Launches Public Consultation on MiCA Regulatory Framework
The European Commission has initiated a public consultation to evaluate the effectiveness of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The MiCA framework, which came into effect in 2024, established a unified regulatory environment for crypto-assets, stablecoins, issuers, and service providers across the EU. As market developments and shifts in the global regulatory landscape continue to evolve, policymakers are reassessing whether the current rules remain suitable.
The consultation process involves both public feedback and technical input from industry participants, financial institutions, academics, consumer groups, and public authorities. This comprehensive approach aims to gather diverse perspectives on the regulation's effectiveness and identify potential areas for improvement. The public consultation will remain open until August 31, after which the collected responses are expected to inform future EU digital asset regulatory decisions.
