Ethereum Unveils 2026 Roadmap with Glamsterdam and Hegotá Upgrades

The Ethereum network has made significant progress in advancing its infrastructure with a structured roadmap for the year 2026. Two major upgrades, Glamsterdam and Hegotá, are set to enhance scalability and security through parallelization and quantum-resistant cryptography. The upgrades aim to address network bloat and improve Layer 2 integration.

The Glamsterdam upgrade will reorganize transaction processing and database management, speeding up processing through parallelization and expanding capacity. It includes the enshrinement of Proposer-Builder Separation via EIP-7732, which removes dependency on trusted off-chain relayers and reduces centralization risks by up to 70%. Block-level access lists will enable genuine parallel execution, reaching 10,000 transactions per second.

Hegotá, scheduled for the second half of 2026, unifies scaling efforts for Layer 1 execution and data availability. It prioritizes native account abstraction to make smart contract wallets native and interoperable, removing intermediaries and reducing gas costs. The upgrade also shifts toward quantum-resistant cryptography to ensure long-term security.

The Ethereum ecosystem is adapting to institutional and technical shifts with one-click staking solutions and proprietary staking services. This initiative seeks to simplify validator setup and reduce reliance on third-party intermediaries for Proof-of-Stake validation.
