Iran Eyes Bitcoin Payments for Strait of Hormuz Transit
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical shipping lanes, with approximately 20% of global crude oil flows passing through it. The waterway has been a source of tension between Iran and other nations in recent years, particularly after a 39-day conflict disrupted the region.
Iran is now considering using Bitcoin as a payment method for ships transiting through the strait. According to reports, certain vessels may be required to pay tolls in cryptocurrency to ensure safe passage. This move would allow Iran to collect revenue in a way that bypasses traditional financial channels and potential sanctions.
