Quantum Experiment Sparks Debate Over Cryptocurrency Security
A recent experiment by Project Eleven has raised questions about the security of cryptocurrencies against potential quantum attacks.
The group awarded researcher Giancarlo Lelli with a 1 BTC reward after he successfully cracked a 15-bit ECC key using a cloud-based quantum computer.
However, experts like Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream, argue that this achievement is not as significant as it seems. According to Back, the result does not prove a useful quantum method against Bitcoin or modern cryptographic systems.
The main criticism focuses on the small 15-bit key size, which has a limited search space and makes it easier to test possible answers than real Bitcoin keys.
