Bank of Canada Report Validates Aave's Non-Custodial Lending System
A report by the Bank of Canada has shed light on the technical feasibility of Aave's non-custodial lending system. The report analyzed data from Aave V3 using transaction-level data to examine its yield model, borrower behavior, and liquidation dynamics.
The study found that protocol yields are concentrated in a few tokens, indicating that users often engage in recursive leverage operations, despite over-collateralization requirements. This can lead to concentrated waves of liquidations, although their impact on the broader market is limited.
While the report concludes that DeFi lending is operationally viable with proper governance, it also highlights concerns related to capital efficiency and systemic vulnerabilities within the crypto ecosystem.
