JPMorgan CEO Vows to Fight CLARITY Act, Slams Coinbase's Brian Armstrong
JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has announced his opposition to the CLARITY Act, a proposed legislation that aims to create a regulatory framework for digital assets in the US. In an interview with Fox Business, Dimon expressed concerns that the bill would allow stablecoin issuers to effectively pay interest on deposits without being subject to the same regulatory requirements as banks.
Dimon's comments have sparked a heated debate in the crypto industry, with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong responding by framing it as 'heated rivalry' between JPMorgan and Coinbase. However, Dimon remains steadfast in his opposition to the bill, stating that lenders would not accept it in its current form.
The CLARITY Act has cleared the Senate Banking Committee in a bipartisan 15-9 vote earlier this month, but it still faces significant hurdles before becoming law. The bill's passage is being closely watched by the crypto industry, with many hoping for greater regulatory clarity and certainty.
