a16z Establishes Seoul Office, Targets South Korea's Crypto Market
Global venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has set up its first Asian office in Seoul, marking a significant expansion into the region. The company officially opened its Seoul office on December 15th, with plans to focus initially on the crypto sector before expanding into other areas.
a16z chose Seoul due to South Korea's status as the world's second-largest virtual asset market. Park Sung-mo, appointed as a16z's Crypto Asia-Pacific (APAC) Market Entry (GTM) Head in December last year, will lead operations from Seoul and support portfolio companies in entering the Korean and Asian markets.
Park previously worked at Polygon Labs and the Monad Foundation, among other roles. He emphasized that a16z focuses not only on investment but also on supporting the growth and market entry of its portfolio companies. The company aims to actively pursue market entry into Korea and Asia based on its Seoul office.
