Hyundai Completes First Stablecoin Payment Pilot on Avalanche Blockchain

Hyundai Motor Company has successfully completed its first pilot payment using a stablecoin on the Avalanche blockchain. The proof of concept (PoC) demonstrated that cross-border payments can be made quickly and efficiently using USDT, a type of stablecoin. Hyundai Card supervised the regulatory analysis, legal compliance, tax considerations, internal controls, and global design of the payment structure.

The pilot involved sending funds from Hyundai Motor America's operations in the US to its Mexican subsidiary using the Avalanche blockchain. The transaction took approximately seven minutes, compared to three to four hours for a conventional cross-border bank transfer. This success shows how blockchain-based payments can significantly reduce processing times while meeting real-world business needs.

Hyundai plans to extend this initiative beyond North America, with a second PoC expected later this month involving its European operations. The European test will include the participation of Circle, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, alongside Visa. This phase will evaluate cross-border transfers involving multiple local currencies, rather than transactions denominated exclusively in US dollars.

Avalanche's high-speed network provided the blockchain infrastructure for the transfer, while Axiym supplied the necessary payment technology to facilitate end-to-end settlement.
