Trump Unleashes Quantum Offensive to Disrupt Crypto Security
US President Donald Trump has signed two executive orders to accelerate the development of quantum technologies in the United States. The measures aim to strengthen American competitiveness against China, which is also investing heavily in quantum computing. A powerful quantum computer could potentially break current encryption standards, known as Q-Day.
The first decree sets a goal of deploying a scientifically relevant quantum computer by 2028. The second order mandates a complete migration to post-quantum cryptography by the end of 2031, four years earlier than previously planned. This raises concerns for the crypto ecosystem, particularly Bitcoin, which has an estimated 7 million 'vulnerable' addresses.
The US government's decision is seen as a response to China's investments in quantum computing. The Trump administration wants to ensure American advantages are not neutralized. National cybersecurity is becoming a central axis of the American strategy.
