Binance Sees Surge in Institutional Liquidity Amidst Global Risk-Aversion
Binance's recent surge in USDT inflows has sparked interest in the cryptocurrency market, with analysts seeking to understand the implications of this trend. The Binance Whale Concentration Indicator (BWCI) provides valuable insights into the quality and composition of liquidity on the platform.
The BWCI measures the proportion of large players retaining their capital within the platform, filtering out noise from retail activity. At its peak in 2025, the index recorded a relatively low value of 8.25%, indicating that the market was largely driven by retail investors at the time. In contrast, the current index stands at a record-high 74.58%, demonstrating a clear shift towards institutional participation.
This institutional dominance has a direct impact on derivatives markets, with Open Interest (OI) on Binance increasing by 2.22% over the course of the day. The influx of USDT serves as collateral for OI expansion, allowing large players to dictate market velocity and establish supports in Spot. This strategic control is even more pronounced than during the 'Trump Tariff Flush' event in April 2025.
