Algorand Prepares Quantum-Safe Accounts for 2027 Launch

Algorand's blockchain is gearing up for post-quantum security by implementing native quantum accounts. According to the Algorand Foundation, this move will protect against both classical and post-quantum threats by 2027.

The foundation has been working towards this goal with its Falcon signature-enabled accounts, which were made via LogicSig programs executed on behalf of an account by the Algorand Virtual Machine (AVM). These accounts are now set to become native in the Q3 protocol release this year.

This upgrade will introduce network-level support for multiple concurrent signature schemes, including Ed25519 and other options. The dev team is merging ECC-based accounts with lattice-based ones, ensuring a robust defense against both classical and post-quantum security risks.
