Optimism's Permissive License: A Double-Edged Sword

The recent announcement by Base, a major player in the Ethereum scaling ecosystem, to leave the Superchain alliance has sent shockwaves throughout the crypto community. The decision has significant implications for Optimism, the protocol that developed the OP Stack, which was released under a permissive open-source license.

This license allowed anyone to take and modify the code without restrictions or revenue-sharing obligations, making it easy for other chains to build on top of Optimism's infrastructure.
