Ripple's Escrowed XRP Supply May Run Out by 2035
Ripple's massive holdings of XRP have been a topic of discussion among cryptocurrency enthusiasts for some time now. One forecast suggests that these holdings may eventually run out by around 2035, which could introduce a finite supply limit for XRP similar to Bitcoin.
However, Ripple's Chief Technology Officer David Schwartz has clarified that predicting an exact date is not possible due to the company's evolving needs and strategies. According to Schwartz, the key variable is not simply the size of the current escrow reserves, but rather the company's decisions on how to utilize those funds.
Schwartz also highlighted the core differences between Bitcoin and XRP. Unlike Bitcoin, which has a fixed supply reduction trajectory that affects network security and miners' economic incentives, Ripple's escrow system does not have direct implications for the XRP Ledger's consensus mechanism or network security.
