Ethereum Builders Propose Economic Zone Framework for Unifying Layer-2 Ecosystem

The Ethereum community is abuzz with a new proposal from Gnosis and Zisk, backed by the Ethereum Foundation, aiming to unify the layer-2 ecosystem through a framework called the 'Ethereum Economic Zone' (EEZ). This initiative seeks to enable seamless interaction between rollups and the mainnet, reducing fragmentation and duplication of infrastructure.

The EEZ would allow smart contracts on different rollups to execute synchronously across networks without relying on bridges. This approach targets a key trade-off in Ethereum's scaling strategy, where dozens of layer-2 networks have improved throughput but split liquidity, infrastructure, and user activity across separate environments.
