Australian Law Enforcement Seizes $4.2M in Bitcoin from Darknet Operator
Australia has seen significant growth in cryptocurrency-related crimes, and law enforcement agencies are adapting to combat this trend.
The latest example is the seizure of 52.3 Bitcoin from a darknet operator in Ingleburn, Sydney. The cryptocurrency, valued at approximately $4.2 million AUD, was found in wallets tied to two suspects aged 39 and 41.
The investigation, known as Strike Force Andalusia, began in September 2024 after the NSW Cybercrime Squad started tracking a darknet marketplace involved in the sale of drugs and weapons. A prior raid in May 2025 uncovered cryptocurrency and digital breadcrumbs that helped investigators connect the operation to the Ingleburn residence.
Blockchain forensic work over nearly a year built a strong case, leading to the execution of the seizure on May 4, 2026. This operation is among the largest Australian law enforcement has ever recovered from dark web-related activity.
