AI Agentic Finance Struggles to Gain Mainstream Traction

AI agentic finance has been touted as one of the most transformative use cases in crypto, promising autonomous machine intelligence managing every financial flow settled instantly on immutable blockchain rails.

However, despite growing infrastructure and rising developer activity, the technology remains far from mainstream deployment. The 'cold-start problem' is a significant barrier facing AI agentic finance, where merchants resist retrofitting their APIs for an agent customer base that barely exists.

Crypto analyst Fabius DeFi pointed out that most active merchants on x402 are minting endpoints, token tools, or hackathon demos rather than production-ready enterprise services. This lack of merchant layer makes agentic payments genuinely useful only when the economics shift in favor of AI agents.
