Argentina's cabinet chief Manuel Adorni is facing increased scrutiny over his handling of Bitcoin investments. According to Adorni, he invested approximately $200,000 in Bitcoin between 2014 and 2018, earning around $300,000.
However, an investigation by Blockworks' data expert Fernando Molina revealed that the blockchain does not match Adorni's story. The wallet described by Adorni showed about 15 Bitcoin transactions in 2017 and 2018, clearing close to $60,000.
This is a fraction of the $300,000 profit claimed by Adorni, and his tale started in 2014, not just between 2017 and 2018. Additionally, another wallet was mentioned, but without any details.
Adorni's Bitcoin story has been met with skepticism from Argentinian Bitcoin enthusiasts. Franco Amati, an early adopter and enthusiast, pointed out that buying Bitcoins in Argentina in 2014 for $100,000 would have been difficult to complete. Another well-known advocate, Carlos Maslatón, alleged that during the period Adorni mentioned, he was part of Xapo Bank, which had a majority of users from Germany, England, and France.
