Farage Faces Fresh Scrutiny Over Crypto-Linked Gifts
Nigel Farage is facing fresh questions over undisclosed gifts he received from crypto entrepreneur George Cottrell, an aristocrat linked to Tether.bet. The allegations come as Farage is already under investigation by Parliament's standards watchdog over separate questions surrounding financial support from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne.
The Sunday Times reported that Farage accepted staff, security, transport, and accommodation from Cottrell before entering Parliament following the July 2024 general election. According to the report, the support included drivers, security personnel, social media staff, and access to a rented five-story property near Buckingham Palace.
Cottrell has a US conviction for wire fraud, having pleaded guilty in 2016 to a single charge under a plea agreement. Farage denied wrongdoing, stating he had 'followed the rules' because the gifts were received before he entered Parliament.
The latest allegations add to an ongoing parliamentary investigation into Farage's financial ties with Harborne and his crypto-related lobbying. Reform UK has continued to back pro-crypto policies despite growing scrutiny of Farage's financial relationships.
