Trump's $20 Billion Crypto Reserve Stalled by Legal Disputes
President Donald Trump's initiative to create a $20 billion Strategic Bitcoin Reserve has hit a roadblock due to ongoing legal disputes. The issue centers around which federal department can lawfully manage the national crypto trove.
The reserve was ordered into existence last year as part of Trump's pledge to make the United States 'crypto capital of the world.'
Initially, the plan was for the reserve to be housed within the Treasury Department. However, concerns arose over whether Treasury could legally manage the assets. One option being considered is moving the reserve to the Commerce Department.
The Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel is working with both departments to determine 'legally available options' to accomplish Trump's policy vision.
