The CLARITY Act is facing significant challenges as it moves through the Senate. One of the main hurdles is the inclusion of an ethics provision, which has become a point of contention between Republicans and Democrats.
The bill requires 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, but with only 53 Republican seats, at least seven Democrats must vote in favor of it. The addition of an ethics clause would bar government officials from engaging in cryptocurrency dealings, a measure that Democrats have made a core demand.
However, the White House has rejected any language singling out specific officeholders, leaving the two sides at an impasse. This has led to concerns that the bill may not move forward without a resolution on this issue.
