AWS WAF Introduces USDC Payments for AI Bot Access
AWS WAF has introduced a new capability that allows content owners to charge AI bots and automated agents for access to protected content using USDC stablecoin payments.
The feature, which leverages the open-standard x402 protocol, enables machine-to-machine micropayments without human intervention. When an AI bot attempts to access content protected by AWS WAF, the firewall intercepts the request and returns a payment requirement, including a transparent price tag, supported payment networks, and the recipient wallet address.
The bot can automatically execute the USDC payment and retrieve the content, with funds sent directly from the bot's wallet to the publisher's designated wallet on the chosen blockchain network. AWS clarified that it does not handle payment processing or fee collection, positioning the service as an access control layer.
