Bitcoin Emerges as Conservative Choice for Institutional Investors
Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream, has made a bold prediction in the world of decentralized finance (DeFi). Speaking at Consensus Miami 2026, he declared that Bitcoin is emerging victorious in the 'security war' within DeFi. According to Back, Bitcoin's simple and conservative architecture gives it a clear advantage over more experimental blockchains that continue to suffer from smart contract exploits.
Back emphasized that Bitcoin's infrastructure is much simpler, more reliable, and primarily focused on security. He pointed to Layer-2 solutions such as Blockstream's Liquid Network as examples of how Bitcoin can support tokenization and decentralized trading while maintaining a high level of protection. Trading tokenized assets on Liquid essentially occurs 'between hardware wallets,' making it one of the safest trading mechanisms available.
The CEO also predicted that the next major wave of Bitcoin adoption will come from institutional players—sovereign governments, pension funds, and corporate treasuries. He outlined three stages of Bitcoin adoption: first by retail investors, then through ETFs via brokers and advisors, and now through large-scale institutional portfolio allocation.
