Thai Police Dismantle International Scam Network in Chiang Mai Luxury Villas

Thai authorities have made significant progress in combating transnational crime with the recent raid on two luxury villas in Chiang Mai. On June 8, 2026, police and immigration officials arrested multiple suspects involved in an international scam network.

The operation, led by Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatchai Pongwiwatchai, targeted a housing estate in the Nong Phueng subdistrict, where officers discovered a group of Chinese nationals actively attempting to trick victims using fake insurance deals and parcel delivery schemes. The suspects were found with computers, mobile phones, and other digital equipment.

According to investigators, the group used cryptocurrency to receive their monthly salaries from a 'big boss' based in China. This allowed them to avoid leaving a paper trail in the banking system. Police have seized over 45 mobile phones and 10 computers during the raid, which contain a massive database of potential Chinese victims.

Local residents reported suspicious behavior from the suspects, including strange working hours and unusual purchases. The group had also rented two expensive houses for approximately 70,000 to 100,000 Thai Baht per month, despite living in luxury conditions.
