$500M UAE Investment in Trump Crypto Venture Sparks Senate Hearings
UAE officials have invested $500 million in Donald Trump's family crypto venture, World Liberty Financial. The investment has raised concerns about foreign influence and whether it has impacted the Trump administration's policy decisions.
Senate Democrats are demanding hearings into the deal, citing that UAE officials purchased a 49% stake in World Liberty Financial four days before President Trump's inauguration last year.
The arrangement was backed by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's National Security Advisor. Within months of the deal, the Trump Administration took policy decisions that benefited the UAE, including approving a $1.4 billion arms sale to the country and creating a 'Known Investor Pilot' program to streamline investment approvals.
The senators have requested that Trump administration officials explain what they knew about payments to the families of President Trump and his lead diplomat for the region under oath.
