African Teams' Historic World Cup Run Fuels Surge in Fan Tokens
Nine African countries have made history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup by advancing to the knockout stages, and their corresponding fan tokens are experiencing a surge in value.
The teams that reached this milestone include Morocco, South Africa, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Egypt, Cape Verde, DR Congo, and Algeria. Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe acknowledged this achievement as a turning point for football development across the continent.
One notable example is the SAFA token tied to the South African national team. It jumped by approximately 37% to $0.41 during the tournament's group stage, demonstrating how fan tokens can experience significant price movements tied to match results.
Kraken became the Official Crypto Exchange Supporter of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 9, marking the first time a crypto exchange has held such a partnership with FIFA. This is part of a broader trend where major sports organizations are building dedicated blockchain infrastructure.
