Circle Prepares Arc Blockchain for Quantum Computing Threat

Circle has taken a proactive approach to addressing the threat of quantum computers on its upcoming Layer 1 blockchain, Arc. The company has published a post-quantum roadmap outlining its plan to build cryptographic resilience across the entire stack.

The roadmap is divided into four phases, with each phase focusing on different aspects of the blockchain's infrastructure. The first phase introduces post-quantum signature support with an opt-in model, allowing users who want quantum-resistant wallets to have them from day one. Private transaction flows will also be protected against future decryption attempts from the start.

Circle is not waiting for a crisis to think about quantum computing, and its proactive approach may pay off in the long run. The company's advantage lies in planning for quantum resistance before a single transaction has been processed on mainnet, unlike existing blockchains that would need to retrofit.
