Warsh Unveils Five Task Forces to Overhaul US Monetary Policy
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has announced five task forces to review and overhaul US monetary policy. Each group will focus on a distinct area, including balance sheet policy, data quality, and the impact of artificial intelligence on productivity and jobs.
The external co-leads for each task force include notable experts such as Marc Andreessen, Harvard economist Raj Chetty, and former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan. The task forces will work independently of Fed staff but will receive research and logistical support from the central bank.
One of the key areas of focus is balance sheet policy, which involves managing a portfolio currently sitting at $6.7 trillion. This has significant implications for markets and investors, particularly those holding assets sensitive to interest rates such as long-duration bonds, growth equities, and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
The task forces are expected to generate recommendations by fall 2026, although these will not be binding policy decisions.
