British Teenager Sanctioned by Russia Over Cryptocurrency Laundering Exposé
A British teenager has been sanctioned by Russia after exposing alleged cryptocurrency laundering operations. Alexander Browder, a 17-year-old student, is believed to be the youngest person ever targeted by Moscow's sanctions regime.
The student's report, titled Confronting the Illicit-Finance Hydra in Crypto Markets: Protecting Retail Investors and Disrupting Hostile Government Exploitation, was published by the Henry Jackson Society think tank in March. The document details alleged illicit activities linked to Russia's war on Ukraine, including the laundering of around $350 billion via Ruble-backed digital currency stablecoin.
Russia's Foreign Ministry has accused Browder of 'defamatory speculations and false information' about Russian authorities. However, the student is unfazed by the sanctions, viewing them as a badge of honour for exposing alleged illicit activities. He claims that the move demonstrates he has touched a nerve with his work.
