Sei Network Accelerates EVM Migration with v6.4 Mainnet Launch

The Sei Network has launched its v6.4 update on mainnet, pushing forward with its vision of becoming a streamlined EVM-only chain. As part of this transition, the protocol will introduce technical capabilities to disable inbound Inter-Blockchain Communication transfers, effectively stranding Cosmos-native assets once governance activates it.

This move is in line with Sei Labs' long-term goal of stripping away complexity and embracing the simplicity of an EVM architecture. With the v6.4 release, users now have a clear action list to follow: swap IBC assets for EVM-native equivalents, bridge assets back to origin chains, or unwind DeFi positions built on IBC assets.

The transition is expected to create short-term liquidity considerations for IBC asset pairs on Sei, with traders advised to monitor market depth as the governance proposal approaches. The modest price uptick following the announcement suggests markets had largely priced in this step of the SIP-3 roadmap.
