Kalshi Seeks CFTC Approval For Precious Metals Perpetual Futures
Kalshi, a regulated U.S. marketplace, is expanding its derivatives trading beyond crypto perpetual futures to precious metals. The company has filed for permission with the CFTC to introduce perpetual futures contracts on gold, silver, and platinum.
The proposed agreements would be similar to existing crypto perpetual futures but without expiration dates. Traders can hold their positions open indefinitely without entering new contracts periodically, unlike traditional futures contracts.
Kalshi plans to offer 24-hour derivatives trading from Monday to Friday, mirroring the hours of the underlying precious metals markets. The company will consider adjusting these hours in the future, according to Udesh Jha, Chief Risk Officer.
This move is part of an ongoing trend among exchanges to make trading more accessible. CME Group has also recently filed for permission to trade oil continuously, while rejecting a proposal from the CME to do the same.
