Babylon Labs Seeks Integration with Aave V4 to Enable Native Bitcoin Collateral

Babylon Labs has introduced a proposal to integrate its Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV) protocol within Aave V4, allowing native Bitcoin to be used as collateral on the lending protocol. This would enable users to lock BTC in a Taproot-based UTXO on the Bitcoin network and have collateral representation and lending functions handled on Ethereum.

The proposal outlines a framework for enabling the usage of native Bitcoin without relying on bridges or wrapped assets, which could enhance the usability and security of Aave's DeFi services. The two new Aave V4 Spokes proposed by Babylon Labs would facilitate onboarding of native BTC collateral via TBV and manage post-liquidation settlement processes.

The integration of TBV with Aave V4 is currently undergoing a Temperature Check proposal on the Aave governance forum, which will progress to the Aave Request for Comment (ARFC) stage if approved. The proposal has already received attention from security firms, including Coinspect, Sherlock, Zellic, ABDK, and ZK Security, which are conducting audits of the integration.
