Poland's Crypto Exchange Embroiled in Multi-Million Euro Scandal
Poland's cryptocurrency landscape has been marred by a major scandal as Zondacrypto, the country's largest exchange, faces a criminal investigation into charges of fraud and money laundering.
The probe was launched after it was discovered that the exchange's Bitcoin hot wallet balances had plummeted by 99.7% in recent months, from an average monthly balance of approximately 55 Bitcoins to just 0.086 of a coin.
Meanwhile, over one million customers have reported difficulties withdrawing their funds from the exchange, exacerbating concerns about the financial stability and security of Zondacrypto.
The estimated losses for investors are staggering, with at least €83 million already accounted for, according to Polish prosecutors.
