Trump Delays Housing Bill, Leaving CBDC Ban in Limbo
President Donald Trump has delayed signing the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which aims to address housing affordability and homeownership access. This delay has put a CBDC ban in limbo, leaving the fate of a Federal Reserve-issued digital dollar uncertain.
The bill passed Congress with strong bipartisan support, but Trump's decision to prioritize the SAVE AMERICA Act has stalled the process. The provision blocking a federal digital currency through 2030 remains pending, keeping crypto policy uncertain for digital asset companies.
Trump's move reflects his earlier stance on CBDCs, as expressed in an executive order signed in January 2025. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called the CBDC 'off the table' and urged lawmakers to focus on digital asset rules.
