$600M Trump Memecoin Windfall Triggers Fresh Crypto Ethics Push
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has renewed her push for crypto ethics rules after Donald Trump's latest financial disclosures revealed he earned over $600 million in 2025 from the TRUMP memecoin.
Gillibrand wants to bar the president, members of Congress, and their spouses from issuing or sponsoring digital assets while holding office. This proposal aims to prevent public officials from profiting from their position and mixing public office with private financial gain.
The renewed call for crypto ethics limits comes as reports examine funding for a trading platform linked to Gillibrand's son. Although the platform will not use crypto or blockchain technology, its connection to Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen has drawn attention.
