Apple Engineers Enter Bitcoin Mining with Focus on Efficiency
The engineers who designed Apple's iPhone have entered Bitcoin mining, according to a recent development in the cryptocurrency space. The move is significant as it indicates where the competition in mining is headed.
Apple's chipmaker has reportedly cut back on producing chips for miners, specifically those used for ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) mining. ASICs are among the most demanding chips to produce and have a direct impact on the efficiency of Bitcoin mining operations.
The shift towards more efficient mining hardware is crucial as it directly affects the cost of power consumption, with prices ranging from $0.07 to $0.08 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in Iowa for over 40,000 machines.
