Major Banks Locked in Tight Bitcoin Adoption Competition
Major banks are locked in a tight competition for second place on MicroStrategy's Bitcoin Banking Adoption Index. Fidelity currently holds the top spot, scoring 71% based on its comprehensive custody and product offerings. The index evaluates 25 major banks' involvement with Bitcoin (BTC), considering factors such as trading, custody, and product depth.
Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, and Citigroup are vying for the second position, each scoring between 43% and 45%. These banks have been actively developing various crypto initiatives, including exchange-traded products, custody expansions, and tokenization tools. MicroStrategy's CEO Phong Le expects these launches to bring significant clarity to the sector by year-end.
Fidelity's early investment in crypto custody has given it a substantial lead over other banks. BNY Mellon follows closely at 46%, while Goldman Sachs trails narrowly behind with a score of 45%. The index measures structural adoption rather than short-term price fluctuations, providing insight into each bank's commitment to Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market.
