Guthrie Disappearance Tied to Possible Wrench Attack
A recent report by CertiK has linked the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie to a potential wrench attack, where perpetrators use kidnapping or violence to coerce a victim into transferring cryptocurrency. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has flagged this report for investigators looking into Guthrie's case.
Alleged ransom notes demanding millions in Bitcoin surfaced shortly after Guthrie's disappearance from her Arizona home. One note received by TMZ demanded $6 million, while another received by KGUN demanded an unspecified amount of Bitcoin.
Nancy is the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, who along with her siblings offered to pay for their mother's return in an Instagram video. 'We received your message, and we understand,' Savannah said. 'We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her.'
As wrench attacks become more common, experts are advising people to be cautious with online privacy and social media sharing. Lisa J. Miller, a retired detective and law enforcement executive at the Colorado Attorney General's Office, recommends restricting social media profiles and monitoring online presence.
