ZetaChain has been hit by a security exploit targeting its GatewayEVM smart contract. According to reports, attackers exploited a vulnerability in the contract's call function, allowing them to forge cross-chain messages and drain funds from internal team-controlled wallets.
The total loss is estimated to be around $300,000, which is roughly equivalent to 139 ETH. The ZetaChain team has confirmed that no user funds were affected, only their internal wallets were impacted. They have blocked the attack vector and paused all cross-chain transactions as a precautionary measure while a full investigation is underway.
The market reacted with caution, with ZetaChain's native token ZETA dropping around 4.8% to 5.3%. Some buying interest emerged, but overall sentiment shifted to risk-off. This exploit adds to a string of cross-chain incidents in April 2026, which has already seen total crypto hack losses exceed $600 million.
