Hyperliquid's Token Surpasses Solana in Price Amid Crypto Market Downturn

Hyperliquid's HYPE token has been making waves in the crypto market, surpassing Solana's SOL in price for the first time. This milestone comes despite a broader crypto market downturn, with Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies experiencing double-digit declines over the past week.

HYPE gained 24% over the past month, while Solana fell 14%, dropping to its lowest level since late 2023. Despite this price reversal, Solana still leads in terms of market capitalization, with a value of around $42 billion compared to Hyperliquid's $16 billion.

The growth of HYPE is attributed to its increasing share of the global perpetual futures market, which reached a record 6.63% in May. Monthly trading volume for perpetual futures products built on its HIP-3 framework also exceeded $62 billion. Institutional interest is growing, with Grayscale launching its Hyperliquid staking ETF, HYPG, and CoinShares setting a 2031 price target of $147 for HYPE.
