Tether Injects $20M into Mercado Bitcoin for On-Chain Expansion

Tether has made a significant investment in Mercado Bitcoin to support on-chain finance expansion across Brazil and Latin America. The $20 million funding aims to grow tokenized assets, blockchain payments, lending, and on-chain capital markets.

Mercado Bitcoin is a full-stack on-chain financial services platform that started as a digital asset exchange in São Paulo in 2013. It has since expanded its business to cover trading, tokenized products, payments, lending, and cross-border services, serving over 4.5 million users and issuing over R$2 billion in tokenized assets.

The investment supports Mercado Bitcoin's growth across several areas, including expanding payments infrastructure and scaling tokenized investment products. The deal also extends Tether's strategy beyond its core stablecoin business, aligning with the company's push for open and efficient financial infrastructure in high-growth markets.
