Ethereum Co-Founder Pushes for Local AI Processing Amid Security Concerns
Vitalik Buterin's recent blog post highlights the growing concern about security risks associated with cloud-based AI workflows.
The Ethereum co-founder emphasizes the importance of local processing and control over AI agents to prevent potential manipulation or data leakage. He achieves impressive performance numbers by running a custom model on an Nvidia 5090 laptop, reaching up to 90 tokens per second.
Beyond this technical feat, Buterin's plan involves developing models specifically tailored for Ethereum use cases, including transaction proposal and verification, smart contract auditing, and other tasks that require AI support.
This vision aligns with Buterin's framework introduced earlier in 2026, which outlined four pillars for Ethereum's role in the AI era: trustless private tooling, economic structure, self-sovereignty through local verification, and enhancing governance and markets with AI support.
