Botanix Shuts Down Due to Weak Demand for Bitcoin DeFi
Botanix, a pioneering project aimed at enhancing the usability of Bitcoin through its scaling network, has made the difficult decision to shut down after four years of operation.
The shutdown notice was posted on X by the Botanix team, stating that users have until July 9 to withdraw their assets, and any remaining assets will be swept and become unrecoverable.
Despite its innovative Spiderchain architecture, which combined an Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible chain with proof-of-stake-style consensus, Botanix failed to achieve sustainable product-market fit or economics.
The team attributed the shutdown to weak demand for Bitcoin DeFi products, with most users treating Bitcoin primarily as a reserve asset and yield vehicle rather than something they want to use frequently in on-chain applications.
