Yield Guild Games Axes Web3 Publishing Arm Amid Crypto Bear Market
Yield Guild Games (YGG), a global gaming collective founded in 2020, has announced it will sunset its Web3 publishing arm, YGG Play. The decision comes as a response to the brutal crypto bear market, partly blamed on the October 10, 2025, crash. Despite receiving lifetime revenue of over $9 million, the business unit was unable to attain commercial sustainability in today's games publishing market.
The company will be laying off 35 people employed by YGG Play and retiring its website and social handles. However, Yield Guild Games remains committed to using technology to open up new economic opportunities for people globally, as stated by Gabby Dizon, co-founder of YGG.
Instead of publishing games, YGG will pivot its business to become a gaming dataset provider for other companies seeking specialized information to train their AI models. This decision extends YGG's operating runway to four years with $20.6 million in its treasury.
