Franklin Templeton, a leading global asset manager, has taken significant strides in its cryptocurrency ambitions with the launch of Franklin Crypto, a dedicated unit focused on digital assets.

The new unit is set to commence operations after the planned acquisition of 250 Digital, which will bring in their entire team and liquid crypto strategies. This strategic move aims to enhance Franklin Templeton's expertise in navigating the complex digital asset landscape for its institutional clients.

Franklin Crypto will be headed by Christopher Perkins, who will oversee the unit alongside Seth Ginns as CIO and Tony Pecore, a digital assets veteran. The team will report directly to Sandy Kaul, Franklin Templeton's head of innovation, underscoring the firm's commitment to its forward-looking strategy.

The launch of Franklin Crypto marks a significant shift in the industry, with major asset managers increasingly looking to establish internal crypto investment capabilities beyond passive ETF products.
