Stablecoins Claim Victory in Open Payments Infrastructure Debate
Circle's Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Policy, Dante Disparte, believes that the debate about open payments infrastructure is over. In his view, traditional payment networks are switching sides and integrating stablecoin functionalities into their systems.
This shift is evident in companies like PayPal, Stripe, Visa, and Mastercard, which have begun incorporating stablecoin capabilities into their infrastructure. This trend suggests that closed networks are adopting open infrastructure, indicating a clear direction for the industry.
Circle's USDC stablecoin sits at the center of this movement, positioned as programmable money rather than a speculative asset. Disparte argues that stablecoins running on public blockchains offer faster, cheaper, and more globally accessible transactions compared to traditional payment rails.
