DeFi Assets Poised for Explosive Growth: Standard Chartered Predicts $2.7 Trillion Surge
Standard Chartered, a prominent bank, has released its latest digital asset outlook, which predicts that decentralized finance (DeFi) assets will surge to $2.7 trillion by 2030, representing a 37x increase from current levels.
The forecast attributes this growth to the increasing adoption of tokenized Real-World Assets (RWAs) and stablecoins in DeFi protocols.
Geoff Kendrick, Standard Chartered's head of digital assets research, noted that only a small share of tokenized value currently enters DeFi, with 3% of stablecoins and 10% of tokenized RWAs being used in DeFi protocols. However, the bank expects this figure to rise to 30% by the end of 2030.
The shift from issuance to active use is seen as a major change in market behavior, with Kendrick emphasizing that 'tokenization has often focused on bringing assets onto blockchains. We are now focusing on active use.'
