Bhutan Unloads $34.5M in Bitcoin to Binance Amid Bearish Sentiment
The Royal Government of Bhutan has transferred $34.5 million in Bitcoin to Binance, the cryptocurrency exchange. According to on-chain analysis from Arkham, 533 BTC were sent to Binance on June 17th.
The largest individual transfer was worth $14.7 million, while another batch of 48.228 BTC, valued at $3.1 million, was also moved. These transactions came from a wallet identified as being owned by Druk Holding & Investments, the state investment arm of Bhutan.
This is not the first time Bhutan has transferred Bitcoin to Binance; in May, the government sent 90 BTC, worth $7 million, to a SegWit address. After this latest transfer, Bhutan's remaining Bitcoin balance stands at 1,749.96 BTC, which is approximately $113.7 million when including the small amount of Ethereum also held.
While this transfer may cause short-term price pressure due to increased supply, experts suggest that its impact will likely be limited compared to the daily trading volume of Bitcoin. However, if Bhutan continues to sell its holdings, investors might begin to question the country's long-term commitment to Bitcoin as a strategic asset.
