South Africa's Crypto Regulation Draft Sparks Industry Concern
The South African government's Draft Capital Flow Management Regulations 2026 has sparked alarm in the financial and crypto industries.
The draft proposes strict rules for crypto holders, including the possibility of forcing them to surrender their digital assets.
Under Regulation 4, authorities would have the power to search for and seize assets, which could include searching phones for crypto-related apps at airports and points of exit.
Violators could face fines of up to $60,480 and up to five years in prison.
