Bitcoin Network Demonstrates Robust Consensus Mechanism in Rare Two-Block Reorg

The Bitcoin blockchain experienced a rare two-block reorganization, where multiple blocks were mined simultaneously by different miners. The event occurred at height 941880, when Foundry USA won an extended multi-block race against competitors AntPool and ViaBTC.

According to data shared by researcher b10c, the network briefly split into two competing chains. However, as soon as Foundry USA continued its winning streak, adding blocks on top of its competing chain, it was treated by nodes as the valid canonical chain according to Bitcoin's rules.

The blocks previously mined by AntPool and ViaBTC were discarded, becoming 'stale' or 'orphaned' blocks. This episode illustrated how orphaned blocks can arise naturally when different miners find competing blocks within a short interval.
