UK Lawmaker Seeks Temporary Crypto Donation Ban Amid Foreign Interference Concerns

A UK lawmaker has called for a temporary halt on cryptocurrency donations to political parties, citing concerns about foreign interference in the country's election finance.

MP Matt Western has asked ministers to insert a moratorium into the Representation of the People Bill, which is currently being debated in Parliament. He believes that hostile states could exploit crypto channels to influence UK politics and urged swift legislative action before the next general election.

The proposal would require political parties to use only Financial Conduct Authority-registered crypto services and reject donations linked to mixers or unknown sources. Parties would also be expected to convert any received cryptocurrency into fiat within 48 hours to ensure transparency.
